History
The Garland Quilt Guild
was formed in 2005. With Barbara Daniel as our leader, the first
meeting was held at Suzy's Quilt Shop in downtown Garland. The plan
was that the meeting would be held there until the group out grew
the space. There were 78 in attendance at that first meeting (with
ladies sitting on the stairs and peaking through the window trying
to hear what was happening)- needles to say, a new facility had to
be found immediately. Fortunately, First Presbyterian Church in
downtown Garland was willing to accommodate our growing group. The
Garland Quilt Guild started with 108 charter members and the first
year ended with an impressive 136 members. Friendliness,
helpfulness, and sharing are the strong points of this group.

2011 President’s Challenge
The President's Challenge for March 2011 was a "Basket with Flowers"
block. Members’ Choice winners were Pat Aldrich, who took the Blue
Ribbon for first place, Julia Hirsch, who took the Red Ribbon for
second place, and Patti Ellis, won the White Ribbon for third place.
Patti’s block also won the President’s Choice, an engraved picture
frame with a picture of her block in it. President Marsha Meeks,
along with past presidents Barbara Cissne and Virginia Hauer made
the pick. Congratulations to the winners and thanks to all those who
entered. The blocks will be made into a quilt for the guild by
Immediate Past President Valerie Hubbard.
